So, what do you think as you read the title of this blog? Some of you know this place well than me, right? Maybe PLATARAN MENTENG is your twice-a-month list since it has a very iconic ambience that you are always remember. For those who never been this place, you guys have to take a look and for those who always choose this place as number list, you gotta keep scrolling. You could have missed some spots there.

What I felt on the moment I arrived in front of PLATARAN MENTENG, amazed, I can't believe Jakarta still have this hidden gem around Menteng. A house with Indonesian-Dutch Colonial Architecture. And you know what, each floor has different theme. Let me take you in!

1st Floor

I got my self trapped in traditional mood, as I entered the PLATARAN MENTENG. You will see the small area with waiting seat on left side and right side. I'm pretty sure, you would easily take your camera and have shot here. But sorry I forgot take a photo here. If you guys skip this spot, you will find the beautiful thing after that. Marble ceramic with beautiful orchid decorated on it. Some of people are just passing through without noticing. But for me, there's beauty that welcomes with warm.

Why I shot this Mango Tree? There's story behind PLATARAN MENTENG. The location of PLATARAN MENTENG used to be a Dutch Colonial House and dormitory for students of medical faculty. So the place where tree grow was a outside-house area on the that day. After the owner of PLATARAN MENTENG bought the whole dormitory, they renovated without much re-construction to keep it same as on that day. Also for this tree, a good choice for letting it grow. Besides as mentioned above, this tree gives the fresh mood on your dining at PLATARAN MENTENG. Cool yet shady.

You will find a stairs in front of the tree. You have to take that stairs to see PLATARAN MENTENG with another point of view. Like what I did below.

I don't know what should I call this thing. "Spear" just come out from my mind. It is a big spear I ever seen hanging on the wall. I think it is made of steel with gold colour and artistic sculpture on it. I'm not sure I can hold it with one hand.. LOL.

Located in the central of Jakarta at Jalan H.0.S. Tjokroaminoto No. 42 Menteng, a strategic area known as the elite residential area in the Central Jakarta, PLATARAN MENTENG stands on an area -/+ 1,500 square meters (outside the parking area). PLATARAN MENTENG is an exclusive dining venue with colonial concept. The beauty and shade created by the shady trees located inside and outside the building, making this place blends harmoniously with nature.

Representing colonial residence of a noble family who live in Jakarta, PLATARAN MENTENG which consists of three floors and equipped with Rooftop presenting Indonesia-Asian dishes influenced by the culinary found in colonial era and from the region of Asia. With another function as an event venue, Plataran Menteng is ideal for different types of formal and informal events such as corporate events gathering, product launching, engagement, wedding and so on.

PLATARAN MENTENG is equipped with modern facilities to support guest comfort, including airconditioning, ceiling speakers, lift to each floor, as well as a praying room accommodating up to 20 people. In addition, all Plataran Menteng cuisines are prepared from the kitchen which is equipped with modern equipment according to the standard of HACCP (Hazard Analysis & Critical Control Points) and HSEMS (Health, Safety, & Environmental Management System) as the International Standard for the kitchen in a 5-star hotel. This modern kitchen is equipped with a walk-in chiller and combi oven and using a resin floor (silikal). In operation, Plataran Menteng also supports eco green by not reducing the electrical power source by using gas and water treatment plan to treat wastewater and clean water.

The first floor is an area where the host welcome the guests, elegantly nuanced with the charm of 80 years old colonial residence. The bar is also located on this area where the dining area accommodate guests up to 120 people. Divided into two dining areas and two private rooms, right in the middle of this area there is a shady mango tree with translucent glass-roofed and piano to accompany the guests while dining and enjoying the natural atmosphere in the room. The second floor is an area where we can entertain guests more intimate with a capacity of 100-150 people. This floor is equipped with a praying room and divided into two dining areas, a lounge and 5 private rooms, where three of the private rooms can be combined. This area can also be used for the wedding aisle. The third floor is an area where we can mingle casually over coffee and tea accompanied by snacks. This area can accommodate guests of 60 people, divided into one dining area and lounge. While Rooftop is an area with a capacity of 20 people, is intended for guests who want to unwind while enjoying the sunset in the afternoon with friends accompanied by drinks and snacks.

Choose Mangkunegaran for your Royal Family Dining. They use premium set on the table. Look at that spoon, knife, and candle in the middle of table!

That's all the tour. I hope it could help you deciding which facilities you love most. I can't take my eyes off of the Kawung. Love all shady tree surround this room and some natural light from the sky. Absolutely will give us some positive energy while having meals inside the room. No need to worry about the temperature inside the room. Although it located like balcony, Kawung also has an air conditioner that keeps you comfortable.

Step to the Food Section. Here's the food they served me on that day I visited the restaurant. All menu are declared as the signature menu. Here We Go !

Menu Summary

As you seen my last post on Instagram, I made a summary above. I put all menu on the plate. Now I reveal them one by one.

1. NASI IJO

Point out the green rice (side dish) in the middle on the picture above, it has a appetizing aroma. Tasty like fragrant rice. No need to worry about its green colour. They use "DAUN SUJI" which means there's no unhealthy issue.

2. BOLA-BOLA COKRO

It contains chicken and squid each ball. You just need to eat it with peanut sauce. Call it the favourite appetizer of Plataran Menteng because I enjoyed it so much.

3. SALAD PUTRI DEWI

Taste fresh in one bowl. From guava, jimaca, oven dried tomatoes until sweet and spicy dressing. Not my favourite actually. But you guys should try. All topping are fresh.

4. PINDANG SERANI

A clear turmeric soup that contains Salmon, Sour Carambola, Pineapple, Chili, and Green Tomato. Its soup is so delicious and give the some taste to strengthen its fresh salmon. I don't find any fishy smell on it.

5. NASI GORENG KELING

Please do tell me, whose Indonesian that hate Nasi Goreng? I think everybody put their heart on Nasi Goreng. If you are one of them, try this Nasi Goreng Keling. They use Black Kalamata Olive to make it look darker. This Nasi Goreng also contains prawn, chicken, and crackers that will crisp the taste. Surely, I love it. Better eat it directly while in heat.

6. DENDENG BATOKOK

An air-dried thin cut beef with spiced coriander, black pepper, and chili tomato relish on the top. They claimed this menu is the most favourite. Everybody are looking for it. I started believed then I ate piece by piece. Simply addictive like chips, one is never enough. Easy to bite.

7. KARI AYAM DELI

Chicken Curry served with Roti Prata. For me, it has an unique presentation. They lead us to eat chicken in another way.

8. KERAPU MENTENG

Super attractive seafood menu from PLATARAN. Fried whole groupa, mint leaf, basil, ginger flower, shallot, red onion, lemon grass, ground toasted rice, and spicy tamarind sauce. This is also become my recommendation to you. Delicious and bite-able even though it is deep fried. All spices keep the taste stronger.

9. OSENG-OSENG PUCUK LABU

This is from the vegetables series, some chayote shoots with cherry tomato, fermented soya bean, chili, and garlic.

10. PISANG BAKAR PLATARAN

A grilled banana with cheddar roast. Just like Dendeng Batokok, so addictive. Not overly sweet, very legit, grilled on-pointly.

11. Puding Batok Putih

Give it up a-freshmaker by PLATARAN. This is their house-specialty coconut pudding. Totally delicious, tasty, legit, and absolutely will cool you down.

12. ELEMENT SHRUB

It contains Japanese Kyuri, apple juice shrub, and green tea. These ingredients are perfect combination, I do love it. I think guys will love its presentation.

13. BEER PLETOK

It contains herb and I think this is a segmented beverage. Not so many people will like it.

That's all from the day I visited PLATARAN MENTENG. The conclusion is I do like this place, love their hospitality and ambience. Food is also great because they apply Indonesia taste on it. Nowadays, people mostly looking for western food rather than local food. I think we have to look back, there's a something good on Indonesia cuisine. Give your taste-buds many reference of any kind of Indonesia food. Try it all at PLATARAN MENTENG, you won't regret it.
